Means and types of sea transport

Sea transport is one of the most economical forms of transporting goods. It allows almost any cargo to be sent anywhere, regardless of its type or size. It can be classified on the basis of the organisation of the work and where the cargo is delivered:

- inland- transport within a single country;

- linear - fixed voyages according to a specific schedule;

- tramp - without a schedule, depending on market demand;

- shuttle - between two specific ports.

However, not all types of maritime transport can carry every commodity - there are different types of ships for specific cargoes. Here are some of them!

Cargo ships

One of the most common sea transporters are cargo ships (cargo ships). They come in different types and sizes. General cargo ships have only a few holds, while cargo container ships can handle very large cargoes. A characteristic feature of large container ships is the tall stack of steel shipping containers on its decks and in its holds.

Ro-ro

Ro-ro ships are mainly designed to carry vehicles - to load them, all you have to do is park it on board. When the 'ro-ro' arrives at its destination, it is unloaded by driving the vehicle down a special ramp. This type of vessel is very efficient, so it is often used for transport voyages in international trade, including imports from China, among others.

Bulk carriers

Bulk carriers occupy an important place in the shipping industry. Unlike other types of shipping, bulk carriers usually do not have any additional rigging.

Why? Because they are designed to carry large cargoes such as wood chips, grains, ores and other materials that are poured directly into the hold rather than kept in containers on board. Bulk carriers are also used to transport certain construction materials.

Advantages of transporting goods by sea

- Low costs - shipping by sea freight is four to as much as six times cheaper than air freight. This makes it one of the most attractively priced methods of transporting goods over long distances. What's more, a single ship can be sufficient to transport a significant amount of cargo.

- Eco-friendliness - transport across the ocean on a cargo ship is more environmentally friendly. Shipping by sea generates a lower carbon footprint than many alternative forms of transport.

- Convenience and efficiency - importing or exporting a small amount of goods does not always require the rental of an entire container. When this is the case, it is possible to group smaller shipments with other cargoes, thus sharing transport costs.

- Safety - maritime transport allows chemicals or other hazardous materials to be transported. The crew of cargo ships have special training for the delivery of such goods. For additional safety, containers are sealed and staff regularly inspect the cargo.

- Carrying heavy cargo - if you have heavy, oversized cargo to transport, sea freight may be the only option available. Cargo ships will transport vehicles, large equipment or building materials, among other things.

- Professional import and international forwarding

- Our company offers a comprehensive service for containerised cargo, regardless of the volume of goods being transported. We will guide you through the complex customs clearance process and ensure short turnaround times.
